I was super excited when I saw the cases of rereleases at my local walmart. I had always been intending to get "School's Out" Clawdeen Wolf during the first release, but she was hard to find in stores locally. so when I saw her on the shelf I grabbed her.
Clawdeen comes in the newer coffin window packaging. the back shows a cartoon snapshot of her and a page out of her student file. along the bottom are the cartoons of the other ghouls in the original release and an ad for the new "Ghouls Rule" dvd. (Side note to Mattel: you need to rerelease the basics for Ghoulia and Holt. nearly everyone I've talked to wants them. you will make so much money and get so much good karma for not forcing us all to go without or pay ridiculous ebay prices!)
ahem. moving on. so here she is removed from the outer box. as you can see she comes with a diary, brush, and stand. in place of her pet from the wave 1 basics, Clawdeen comes with a trapper keeper notebook (squee! cute reminder of the older style packaging that a lot of us loved) and a purse.
Clawdeen's new school fashion is probably an answer to the outcry over the tiny skirt she was wearing in wave 1. it consists of a long sleeved sweater(?) and a pair of purple capri length leggings. the leggings have gold stitch detailing down the outside of the legs.
the top, well I'm going to call it a sweater. the base color is purple with zebra stripes in black, and gold glitter glued on inthe shape of leopard spots. the bottom hem, cuffs, and off the shoulder neckline are trimmed in yellow ribbed fabric. there are teal straps sewn in that make it look like she's showing off her bra. oops, I guess I just ruined this Clawdeen for some people. they really arent that noticible, and if you're concerned, you could easily pull the neckline up to cover them or clip them off with scissors.
Clawdeen's shoes are pretty serious. they are black knee-high boots with golden spike heels. there are numerous gold painted zippers (some of which are "unzipped" to make little peepholes). there are two purple stripes that match her pants, one near the top and the other across the toe.
to accessorize Clawdeen wears quite a bit of jewelry. she has four golden earrings (two in each ear). one of the earrings in her left ear has a gold "chain" hanging from it. she wears a black choker necklace that has a golden zipper on it. and on her right hand she has... brass knuckles? it is a black multifinger ring with gold spikes on it. (Parental Warning: all her jewelry is small parts)
her final wearable accessory is a belt. it is teal and very wide, taking up pretty much her entire midriff area. there are gold rimmed holes punched in it. and as you can see, the glitter from her sweater sticks to the belt pretty well.
Clawdeen's purse is quite detailed. the front has several gold buckles molded in, with purple painted straps that contrast with the black plastic quite well. the back and sides each have another gold buckle making it look like the purse would have lots of storage space if it was a real purse. it does open via a hinge, and you could get tiny items in and out fairly easily.
the purse has a black and gold stripped ribbon strap. this has a tiny functioning black buckle on it.
finally, Clawdeen has a trapper-keeper folder. it is molded in teal plastic with purple stickers on it. the stickers add a bit of interest to the piece. the front has black claw marks and the Monster High school crest. the back has more claw marks and "MONSTER HIGH" written with the skullette between the words.
the folder does open. inside is a sticker that looks like a piece of notebook paper with the Monster High skullette on it.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: beautiful Clawdeen doll, nice fashion, good accessories
The Bad: small parts, difficult to find
The Verdict: honestly, I think wave 2 Clawdeen Wolf is much prettier than wave 1 and worth buying just on that account. I redressed her in wave 1 Clawdeen's clothes and gave her fashion to someone else, which you will be seeing soon...
