I only saw Skull Shores Abbey in stores once and passed due to the price. so I ended up having to order her online, where I was able to get her a bit cheaper than what Toys R Us had been asking. she is one of the most popular dolls in this line (along with Lagoona), and has been very difficult to find. of course after I bought her online I saw another one in the stores.
the back of the box features a cartoon of Abbey checking out the treasure map while she eats her frozen treat. underneath her are the cartoons of the other four dolls in the line.
inside the box we have Abbey in her swimsuit, with huge "floppy" hat, and a frozen treat of some kind. she also comes with a hairbrush, stand, and collector's card.
from a distance Abbey's multicolored swimsuit appears to be covered in flowers like most typical vacation swimsuits are, but when you look up close you can see they are actually snowflakes (love!). her coverup is purple with snowflakes printed on it, and a "fur" trim at the waistband.
it ties in the back with black string, which is attached to the front with a blue "ice crystal" at the bust. just beneath the crystal is a barely noticeable keyhole cutout.
Abbey's sandals are molded out of translucent purple plastic. the heels and T-strap resemble icicles. I really love how Mattel has managed to make winter designs still work at the beach.
Abbey's sunhat is huge. it was molded out of the same plastic as her shoes and has a somewhat lumpy appearance that reminds me of snow or ice. her earrings are a translucent blue, that match the crystal on her swimsuit, and look lice icicles dangling from her ears.
her final piece of jewelry doesn't match anything else. it is a magenta bracelet with skullette key charm. her basic doll also had a key, but I don't remember if we ever found out what it was for. (parental warning: all her jewelry consists of small parts!)
to keep cool, Abbey has a frozen treat to snack on. it is pink and textured, so I'm going to pretend they are cherry Dippin' Dots, because I live in KY and Dippin' Dots are like the one awesome thing from here. it's served in a large "ice" mug to keep them from melting.
the final item in Abbey's box is her collector's card. it features the same image from the back of her box on the obverse. on the reverse appears to be the exact same map as was on Gil's card.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: it's Abbey! cute accessories. cute swimsuit.
The Bad: small parts.
The Verdict: if you collect beach dolls, Skull Shores Abbey is a good one to get. many collectors also like to buy extras of her to wear her fashion packs. for me she was a must!
