tiny tomato

Sporty fashionista here is showing off an actual tomato grown on my hubby's indoor tomato plant. it was so perfectly barbie-sized, I just had to get a picture of it.

Sporty is wearing her original dress, sitting on a Jazz Baby barbie chair. the table I made myself out of a leftover piece of hardwood flooring from a home remodelling project.

this is a photo of the backside of the liner for my Rochelle Goyle doll. you can see the pink tufts of her hair poking out on the sides. but look towards the middle. those are the T-ties that attach her head to the liner. there is some weird sort of oily ooze...

I have collected dolls for a long time and I have never seen this. at first I thought it might be some of the product they put in her hair to keep it styled during shipping, but if that were the case it seems like it should be all over the area behind her head, not just these two little spots. I think it is some of the glue they use to keep the hair rooted.

the glue itself annoys me because it seems like this is just one more thing that can ruin a doll over time (metal barbie earrings anyone?), but it looks like we may not have to wait long for damage to start showing. I'm not really sure what purpose the glue serves- I've never seen a modern doll go bald just from brushing and ordinary play, and the glue won't stop people from intentionally balding them if they so desire.

I was really looking forward to deboxing and playing with this gal, but now I'm going to wait and see if I can find a new one to swap her out with. I'd like to put off whatever problems this will cause as long as possible.

Dead Tired Abbey: Review

I was thrilled when I found out that the second wave of Dead Tired dolls would include my favorite ghoul- Abbey Bominable. The box for the second wave dolls looks pretty much exactly like the first wave boxes.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: beautiful doll, adorable jammies, cute accessories

The Bad: a little pricey for what you get

The Verdict: personally I love Dead Tired Abbey Bominable. ok, I love any Abbey Bominable doll. she is a really beautiful doll, and her pajamas are so cute and she is worth getting, but you might want to wait for the price to come down a bit.

sorry for the inconvenience folks.  my entry from earlier today with upcoming Monster High dolls in it got pulled.  at first I thought the blog I linked to ( had reported me for not giving enough proper attribution.  but I notice their entry is down too, so I can only assume that Mattel has had everything posted about the new dolls pulled.  does that mean I've hit the big time? ;-)

sorry to be so cavalier about it, but it's kind of exciting to know that I've gotten a peek at some upcoming things that Mattel really didn't want let out.  not  thrilled about getting in trouble over it, but I had no idea at the time that it was not an official preview.  I'll post entries about the doll lines when they come out.

some good news though... Mattel is going to be re-releasing a few of the basic dolls, so I am hoping I will be able to catch up on ones that I previously missed.  I have heard that the first basic Draculaura (the one that comes with her pet Count Fabulous) is shipping again, along with the second wave of basics (aka "School's Out" among fans).  so if you missed some of the earlier dolls, keep your eyes peeled, they should be showing up again soon.

now if only they would re-release the Dawn of the Dance dolls....

omg, MORE?!?!?!

reposting this on 10/17/13. removed dead link. and everything is out now already. also fixed sloppy html

I have been trying very hard to keep this blog kid-friendly, but Mattel is driving me nuts.  when I checked various fan sites this morning, all I could do was curse.  they are putting out even more Monster High stuff.  I'm not sure if all of it will be coming out this year, but since nearly everything that we knew about before has hit the stores now, it's a pretty good likelihood that at least some of the following will be available by the holiday season.

  • It's Alive! (characters released with an action feature- seems gimmicky to me)
  • Scaris (some of the characters travel to Paris.  looks like there will be another car and at least 1 playset in this line. AND AT LEAST 2 NEW CHARACTERS)
  • more beds and vanities
  • deluxe fashion sets (doll with extra fashions)
  • at least 2 new CAM sets (both girls, so far)
  • dance class assortment?
  • classic accessory assortment?

some of the new stuff can be seen here: [dead link removed, the site now only features an obscene image]

I am exhausted.

some good news though... Mattel is going to be re-releasing a few of the basic dolls, so  I am hoping I will be able to catch up on ones that I previously missed.  now if only they would re-release the Dawn of the Dance dolls....

bad blogger

I have neglected this blog of late. sorry about that. I've been in a bit of a collector's slump recently. my region has been pretty dry of late, so I haven't gotten much new recently. I am having to do all of my buying online, which is frustrating. I like to be able to pick out my dolls and have a bit of instant gratification. what can I say, I'm impatient.

I've also developed a fear of opening the Monster High dolls I've already bought. since Mattel has a penchant for re-releasing old dolls with new exclusives, I am afraid of getting stuck with multiples. this also makes me hesitant to buy new things. will there be an exclusive version in a few months? (ask me about the Skull Shores Draculaura I bought...)

I have taken a lot of photos and started writing some reviews, but I haven't been motivated to finish them. the reviews are all waiting on photos, but we're having a heat wave and I find it too hot to sit upstairs long enough to do much editing.

Skull Shores Abbey: review

I only saw Skull Shores Abbey in stores once and passed due to the price. so I ended up having to order her online, where I was able to get her a bit cheaper than what Toys R Us had been asking. she is one of the most popular dolls in this line (along with Lagoona), and has been very difficult to find. of course after I bought her online I saw another one in the stores.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: it's Abbey! cute accessories. cute swimsuit.

The Bad: small parts.

The Verdict: if you collect beach dolls, Skull Shores Abbey is a good one to get. many collectors also like to buy extras of her to wear her fashion packs. for me she was a must!
