give your Monster High dolls braces

ok, I have to admit I am a little bit OCD, so perfect face paint is important to me in my dolls. sometimes it is hard to find the one that is painted just so, and I have to compromise. as someone who has had braces twice, I definitely appreciate a nice set of chompers, but they are much easier to fix at home. so if given the choice between a doll with good eyes but messed up teeth, and one with good teeth but messed up eyes, I will pick the former every time.

this Clawd is a good demonstration of the above. he has great eyes and sideburns, but his teeth were a little uneven. but this is an easy enough fix. you will need, in addition to the doll, a round toothpick and some acrylic paint.

make sure you shake the paint before starting. sometimes it will separate a little in the bottle. you will only need a tiny amount of paint, so I just unscrewed the cap and dipped the toothpick in the paint on the underside of the lid.

now for the difficult part. I have seriously shakey hands. I ended up having to sit on the floor with my forearms pressed into the floor in order to get a nice steady hand. the nice thing about acrylic paint is that if you mess up you can just wipe the paint off with a little bit of water and try again. a few minutes later and Clawd has nice bright menacing canines.

Clawd Wolf and Draculaura Giftset: Review

One set I have been really excited about this year is the Monster High Draculaura And Clawd Wolf Giftset This is the first issue of Clawd and is his "basic" doll, although he is part of wave 2 along with this Draculaura. Technically these two come in the coffin style packaging, but it was much easier to open than SDCC Ghoulia's was.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: cute set with an all-new character, and a guy at that! lots of cute details.

The Bad: some small pieces

The Verdict: currently this is the only issue of Clawd Wolf, so if you are collecting all the "basic" dolls and their diaries you will have to get this set for him. The Monster High Draculaura And Clawd Wolf Giftset is a good addition to your Monster High collection.

Clawd's Sideburns

while I'm working on my Clawd/Draculaura set review, here are a few pictures I took to compare the first and replacement sets. there were several in stock when I finally found the replacement set in local stores. some of them had the exact same crooked sideburns that my first one had, so I guess one of the factories has a stamp out of alignment. so collectors should pay particular attention to this part of the doll.

the good one is on the left, and the crooked one is on the right. photos can be enlarged by clicking.

SDCC 2011 DeadFast Ghoulia: Review

well, Ghoulia won the dolly debox battle. I know some people will think I'm crazy for deboxing her since she's an exclusive, but personally I can't bond with a doll through plastic and cardboard.

Ghoulia arrived with this black outer box that features a picture of her in total fangirl freakout over zombie superhero DeadFast. The other sides of the box just have black/grey background designs on them, but I can take pictures if anyone wants me to.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: It is flippin' adorable! awesome accessories.

The Bad: some small parts. will probably be increasingly difficult to find. there are a few available from Amazon here.

The Verdict: For me, she was a must-have. I know that if you get her you will not be disappointed.

is it possible to apply that term to doll collecting? in the past several days I have gotten a few dolls, and yet now that I see the 2.5 basics are finally on sale, I have a bad case of the wants. I really like the pivotals, but I actually have 3 here already that have not yet been deboxed: Carol Ferris, who just arrived on thursday, a pop-life redhead that I got on discount in december, and a pirates Angelica I got a couple of months ago.

I have a good reason for not deboxing Angelica though. Her packaging is supposed to match up with that of the Jack Sparrow doll, which I haven't been able to find locally yet. I wanted to take a picture of them side by side in their boxes before I opened them.

the pop life doll was kind of my consolation prize. I really wanted the Flashdance doll, but she sold out just a couple of hours before I was able to get online. I don't even know why I wanted the Flashdance doll really. I've never seen the movie (at least that I can remember), and I can't stand her helmet-hair, so I'd be buying her knowing I would have to do work to her. I should just bite the bullet and list pop life for sell or try to trade her, but I feel guilty every time I look at her. I don't know if I could trade her for a Flashdance, but I could probably get one of the jazz babies I still lack.

so I have all of them, plus 2 half-deboxed basics still in barbie limbo. also the SDCC Ghoulia that I ordered at the same time as Carol Ferris, and my replacement Clawd/dLaura set still boxed. I don't even know what to open first, but I still want more. is there a Doll Addicts Anonymous group?

my wallet will be hurting

Oh, wow! We just got back from the weekly grocery run. We actually stopped at Walmart just so I could look at the dolls. I have the Clawd/DLaura set already, but I'm looking for one to swap it out with, as the one I ordered on the internet has some seriously crooked sideburns...

Anyway, no luck finding Clawd. I was actually pretty bummed after last week, because they had replaced the Monster High display shelf with Transformers. but now I know why! They set up a newer, bigger, better Monster High display on a different shelf!

They had all the Dead Tired single dolls. And the classroom dolls! Both of those were cheaper than at TRU so I'm really glad our Walmart has them in now. I was kind of bummed to have to pass on classroom Lagoona again, but I'm still waiting on DeadFast Ghoulia to arrive in the mail. They also had the wave 2 basics of Clawdeen, Cleo, and Frankie. I think of those three Frankie is the prettiest. No sign of Abbey. or Spectra for that matter, but I'll probably pass on her anyway unless she is a total "wow" in person.

Oh! and they had the new Dawn of the Dance three-pack with Frankie, Clawdeen, and the new Draculaura. Draculaura is way cuter in person than in the pictures. I do kind of think it was crappy of Mattel to release her only in a pack with dolls that have been out for a long time (even though I don't own any of them yet!) and the same goes for GB Ghoulia. I expect ebay will be flooded with them soon.

I'm hoping they will get the DotD Deuce in soonish. I'd like to get a good look at him before I decide. I like that he has a different snake-hawk, and his sunglasses are awesome, but I need to see the outfit before I make my decision.

They also dropped the price on the Scream Uniforms by a couple of dollars, so I might go ahead and buy those next. As much as I hate clothes shopping for myself, I love doing it for my dolls!

Impatiently Awaiting

A couple of hours ago some the extra San Diego Comic Con dolls became available for purchase at Matty Collector, so after battling their very swamped website I was able to order the DeadFast Ghoulia Yelps Monster High doll and Carol Ferris Barbie doll.

I'm really excited about DeadFast Ghoulia. I've seen lots of pictures of her posted by collectors lucky enough to go to SDCC, and she looks like a ton of fun. It looks like Mattel went the extra mile on her accessories.

I am hoping that Carol Ferris will be as pretty as her promo shots were. There haven't been very many pictures posted of her, so I am a little nervous about having purchased her. She has the same headmold of one of my favorite Barbie Basics models (Jeans #14, Louboutin/Glimmer) so I have a good feeling about her. Plus her flightsuit is just awesome looking.

I'll get some reviews up once they arrive.
