I have been very excited about the Monster High dolls for months, but I have finally gotten my first one: Monster High Clawdeen Wolf Doll [Edit: rereleased as: Original Favorites Clawdeen in the newer coffin packaging] This is the first version of the doll, and may be discontinued soon. Currently there are a few different box versions that are out. There is the very first issue box which I have pictured below. A second issue that has the same box but with clawed hands instead of the standard Monster High splayed finger hands. And a new box style (that no longer looks like those charming trapper-keepers from the days of yore) with the clawed hands.
The back of the box shows a full body cartoon drawing of Clawdeen next to her bio. Here it is pointed out that she is the daughter of the Werewolf, and some of her preferences are cutely "dog-like."
Inside the box you get your Clawdeen doll and her pet Crescent. Also included are a hairbrush and doll stand, and a diary with Clawdeen's activities leading up to the first day of school.
As of press time this set is the only way to get Crescent. I enjoy the irony of a werewolf having a pet cat. Parental warning: Crescent is made of a softer plastic so he might not hold up well to rough play.
Clawdeen's outfit consists of a black jacket with purple "fur" trim over a peach and black tigery print shirt. This shirt does have some glitter on it. She has a purple mini-skirt with a black netting underskirt. Her belt is a soft black plastic with painted golden studs. She has peach netting knee-highs under her boots. The boots have a base color of black with purple buckle details. They are open-toed and platform-heeled.
Her accessories include a black and purple purse with zipper detailing and some jewelry. She has a removable plastic gold locket, a choker/"collar" that matches her belt, and four plastic gold hoop earrings. Parental warning: the earrings are also removable, and teeny-tiny, but if you don't tell your kids they might not notice as they do not move around freely.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: unique doll, with an adorable take on the classic werewolf monster.
The Bad: tiny jewelry parts, cat Crescent is softer plastic, and may not hold up well to rough play.
The Verdict: Monster High Clawdeen Wolf Doll has been the most popular in the series thus far, even outside of the realm of doll-enthusiasts. As such, she has been more difficult to find, so if you are interested in her you should grab her up quick!
