continuing my fashionista obsession, I was able to grab the Tall Lacey Blue giftset on sale this week.
the back of the box features pictures of barbie in her fashions as well as pictures of some of the other giftsets. in this photo you can also see that my box was slightly damaged.
with the plastic removed you can see barbie a little better, along with her included fashions and accessories.
here's barbie fresh out of the package and wearing her first dress. it is sleeveless and has a pretty blue on blue paisley print. the edges are all finished with blue stitching and it has a velcro closure.
she is packaged wearing a pair of high heeled brownish-orange ankle boots. these have a lot of nice molded in details including stitching and laces. a paintwash would make these really special. I expect to get a lot of use out of these.
barbie's second pair of shoes is a pair of wedge sandals molded in teal plastic. they have lots molded in details including buckled straps. they are very nice, and I'd rather have them in a neutral color so I could get more use out of them.
she is packaged holding a hot pink purse with a very long strap. it has lots of molded in details that look like filigree surrounding jewels. this could be really fancy with some paint added.
the second purse is molded in a brownish-orange plastic that match her boots. it has a molded chain handle and tassel clasp. it has other molded in details like reinforced corners stitching. with a little paint this could be a very nice item.
she is packaged with a pair of teal glasses T-tied to her head. they have molded in details that kind of look like the frame is made out of rope. you can also see her pretty face. she has very light colored eyes and a small mole under her left one.
barbie's second fashion is an off the shoulder top and tiny shorts that don't pass the fingertip test, so she can't wear these to school. the top is a nice light blue color with pink stitching along the edges. it has a pink flower print on it and a pink ribbon to tie around her neck. all of the stitched detailing on the shorts is actually printed on. this fashion over all feels a little to tight on her, so it might work better on a different body type. this is especially pronounced with the shirt, which has no opening and must be pulled up her legs.
her final fashion is a dress with a hot pink skirt. it's sleeveless and the teal collar is printed on, which is a shame. I'm not really sure what's going on with the top of this dress. it looks like she wore it to pick up Chelsea from daycare on finger painting day. the black waist ribbon isn't sewn on straight on my doll, which my OCD will require me to fix if I use this dress for display.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: pretty doll, extra fashions and shoes
The Bad: no articulation
The Verdict: I feel pretty good about the price I paid for Tall Lacey Blue giftset barbie, but she's probably not going to be popular with adult collectors. I'm sure kids will love her though.
