my birthday was last week. thanks to food allergies, we couldn't do the usual trip to the city to eat out and hit the big stores, so my husband cooked for me and then we went to walmart. I ended up getting Fashionista #25, Pretty in Python, along with another gal you'll see next week.
the back of the box features a photo of the whole lineup of fashionistas. my original plan was to get them all, but there are a ton of them. so my compromise was to get only the new body styles, and only get an original body if I really liked her look. this is the first original to join my collection since the new bodies came out.
here she is out of the box. while I've generally had good luck getting fashionistas to stand on their own, this gal just wouldn't do it, so pardon my hand. I'd like to take a moment to explain why. it's because her body is molded to have a cocked hip like model muse dolls do. she also has differently molded legs and oddly the one that is shorter is on the high hip side, so there is just no way she will ever be able to stand. she also looks like a granny with a broken hip sitting down. not a fan. she's going to end up on the short list for a new body.
her dress is a very nice pink snakeskin print. the body of the dress is straight and it has a ruffle for a skirt. it has a ribbon for off the shoulder straps. there are clear straps to help hold it up right.
Barbie's shoes should look familiar. they are a brown version of these. they are ankle high booties with three straps across the top. they have molded in buckles and stud details.
to accessorize, Barbie has a nice shiney silver plastic necklace. it is molded to look like a multi-stranded necklace. it's nice and all, but her face is really pretty. I like her soft makeup and green eyes.
other than her weird budget model muse body, the only other thing I don't like is her hair. while she was still packaged it looked like there was only a small platinum bit of hair in her braid and a little bit behind it, which I thought I could just hide with a bit of clever styling. unfortunately outside of the box there is quite a bit more.
it looks a bit skunky to me. and the massive bald blond painted spot isn't really endearing either. she's going on my list of gals who need serious hair help. hopefully I'll be able to figure out something soon. I really love her face.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: beautiful face, decent fashion, low price
The Bad: no articulation, weird permanent body pose
The Verdict: as much as I like her, I'm not sure I can recommend Fashionista #25. she has a pretty face and nice clothes, but her body just really bothers me. it's terrible for play and display.
