another Ever After High character I like quite a bit is Cerise Hood. I saw her once in walmart several months ago, and then not again until recently when I went ahead and bought her.
she comes in the standard Ever After High box. the back shows her cartoon and bio, as well as smaller cartoon portraits of some of the other dolls and a keyhole shaped cutout. one side of the box looks like the spine of a book and has her portrait and name.
with the plastic covering removed we can see that Cerise comes with a black hairbrush, her story bookmark, and a purse. she also has a stand that is packaged inside the layers of the cardboard box liner.
Cerise is the first female doll to not wear a cutesy little party dress. instead she has mottled grey leggings under her red and black plaid tunic. the tunic does have black lace sleeves and ruffles at the bottom, but I do not get the overall impression that she's on her way to the Spring Fling dance or anything.
to accessorize, Cerise has a wide brown belt with silver chains hanging on her right hip. on her right hand she has a thick black bracelet and a red ring (parental warning: small parts!). the silver chains at her neck are not a necklace, but the clasp for her cloak.
here is a back view of her cloak. the main body has branch designs over the variegated red background. the hood is solid red and has a slit at the nape for her hair to stick out. the main part of the cloak is lined with red netting.
her boots are molded in brown plastic and have silver paint accents on only two of the buckles. there are actually several more buckles and laces sculpted in, but they are hard to see without the paint. the boots themselves are wedge heeled and come up to her mid shin.
in place of a purse, Cerise carries a small picnic basket. the bottom part is molded in brown plastic, and has a nice basket weave texture. the top is molded in grey plastic and has a plaid pattern painted on in red. the handle is molded in red plastic. I do not believe that the basket can open.
lastly, if you are a fan of the web series, prepare to be disappointed. in doll form, Cerise's big secret she hides under her hood is...
...elf ears. I can understand Mattel not wanting to make a beautiful human looking doll with dog ears, but maybe including a headband with ears on it would have been a good compromise. oh well.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: beautiful doll, unique design
The Bad: some small parts, elf ears
The Verdict: Cerise Hood is a neat character design that I really like and recommend picking up. she does have two more retail versions due out soon, Legacy Day and Hat-Tastic Tea Party . there is also supposed to be a "wolf" version of her for SDCC, but I'm betting she will still have elf ears.
