I was excited to see the Target exclusive Skull Shores 5 pack go on sale. I had been waiting to buy this set for a while, and the price was finally right.
the back of box has a cartoon of the 5 ghouls standing on the beach. there are inset closeups of each of their faces along with their vacation quote.
pulled out of the box we can see that we get the 5 dolls, and 1 hairbrush. no stands or other accessories are included.
I'll start off with exclusive color version of Frankie [b/w]. the top of her suit and beach coverup have a blue and yellow-green cloud with lightning bolt print. the bottom has a blue geometric print. the top ties in the back with a bright blue ribbon.
Frankie's shoes are molded in a bright blue translucent plastic. the heels are stacked hexagons. the strap across her toes is also comprised of hexagons.
she accessorizes with a hexagon bracelet molded in the same plastic as her shoes. her hexagon earrings are molded in a darker blue plastic. OCD alert.
another of the exclusive dolls is Clawdeen. her beach coverup completely covers her suit. it is a purple see-through floaty off the shoulder blouse with lime green leopard-print hibiscus flowers. it is held up by a purple plastic ring with black ribbon that ties behind the neck.
her actual swimsuit is strapless lime-green with black zebra print. she wears a black belt which is a separate piece from the rest of the suit. I would have liked some sort of transparent straps to be on the suit. as it is, she is a frequent victim of wardrobe malfunctions.
Clawdeen accessorizes with two earrings in each ear. on each ear is a translucent purple and translucent green square.
her shoes are translucent purple wedge sandals. they are made of a more rubbery plastic and remind me a lot of the jelly shoes I used to wear to the beach as a kid.
Cleo is the last of the exclusive dolls in this set. she wears a high waisted pair of floaty pants over her gold swimsuit. the pants are made of a see-through material that has turquoise palm fronds printed over black and yellow bandage prints.
she accessorizes with a translucent turquoise bracer with black accents. it is molded so that it feels kind of like bandages.
in the above picture you also get a better look at the top of her swimsuit. there is a turquoise beetle broach at the top that ties behind the neck with turquoise ribbon.
she also wears a pair of translucent turquoise earrings in the shape of wings.
Cleo's shoes are my favorite part of her fashion. they are simple sandals molded in translucent turquoise plastic, but the heel is really fantastic. it features a kneeling Anubis that looks as though he is supporting her heel.
Draculaura was also sold separately. her single issue inclued a tropical drink that is not included in this set. her swimsuit is sailor-inspired. the main body is pink and white striped with a pink bow at the bust. the back collar is see-through black material with white ribbon trim.
her beach cover-up is the only one in the set that ties on instead of having velcro. not sure why. it is made of see-through black material with pink anchors, the Monster High skullette, and blue star flowers printed on it.
she accessorizes with a bracelet of crossed anchors connected by rope and a tiny white sailor's hat with a pink stripe. she also wears a pair of translucent pink plastic anchor earrings.
this picture gives a better view of her earrings and an alternate view of her hat.
Draculaura's sandals qualify as some of the more impractical shoes that the ghouls at Monster High have worn. they are pink with rope straps and anchors for heels. I'm not really sure how these would work in real life. they are cute and in theme with the rest of her ensemble though.
Ghoulia was also sold separately with a tropical drink that is not included in this set. her swimsuit is a cute vintage-inspired suit that is black with yellow splatter dots. the top ties in the back with green ribbon and there is red ribbon at the top and waist. there is a white ribbon running between the red ribbons with red dots that imitate buttons.
her cover-up is a red see-through skirt with swirly brick-like pattern printed in white. she accessorizes with a mismatched pair of earrings (the right one is a ribcage --ew, and the left one is a blood splatter), a barrett of red brains, and a red blood drippy bracelet.
she also has a pair of big round sunglasses molded in translucent green plastic.
her sandals are molded in translucent red plastic. around the ankle and toes are blood splatters. this is one of the few pairs of shoes that has a strap between the toes as well.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: includes 3 exclusive dolls, including a color version of Frankie
The Bad: no stands, very few accessories
The Verdict: the exclusive dolls in this set are great, and I would recommend getting it if you can find it on sale. at full price it feels a little expensive considering you don't get any stands or the cute drinks that the single releases got.
