one of the most anticipated Monster High items of the year, Home Ick Abbey & Heath, is also a personal favorite of mine.
the back of the box features the full cartoon of Heath and Abbey from the front of the box as well as an excerpt from their lab notebook. as usual Heath is setting things on fire, but fortunately Abbey is there to perform damage control.
here they are removed from the packaging. I think their differences in color pallet makes them a visually interesting couple.
since Heath is probably the reason most people are buying this set, I will go ahead and talk about him first. his hair is molded in plastic. it's painted in different shades of orange that make it look firey. I also like that they were able to give him a bit of a mischievous look by giving him an arced eyebrow.
Heath's jacket is a nice piece. the main body of the jacket is made of a heavy fuzzy material with ribbon detailing, and tiny metal "buttons". the sleeves are felt with the designs printed on. I really like it, but unfortunately my Heath probably won't spend much time in it, because I am super paranoid about staining.
the back of the jacket gives you a better look at all the trim. I think it's a pretty good approximation of what he wears in the webisodes.
underneath his jacket, Heath wears a nice grey t-shirt. it has really nice flame designs on the front, and closes in the back via velcro. I really appreciate that Mattel gave Heath such a nice shirt under his jacket!
to make sure he doesn't get his pants dirty (which I'm sorry to say I didn't get a picture of, will try to update later), Heath wears an apron. it is bright red with black ribbon as the waist tie. the bottom left corner has an "MH" logo printed on it.
Heath's shoes are really neat. they are black loafers with white soles. the tops have red and yellow flames painted on them.
the final accessory Heath wears is a maroon oven mit with spiderweb detailing. due to reports of staining, I pulled that mit off him first thing and put it in this little baggie. as you can see the hand on the left has faint staining compared to the hand on the right.
for Abbey I'm going to start off with her apron. it is bright blue with a black ribbon waist tie. there are black ruffles along the bottom edge, and the same "MH" logo on the bottom left corner as was on Heath's apron.
with the apron removed you can get a better look at her dress. it is black with white, light pink, and light blue swirls. there is a black bow at the neckline, and the neckline and arm holes are trimmed with black fur.
originally I thought the glittery purple tulle was part of the apron, but it's actually an overlay on her dress. I think it looks a little odd without the apron over it.
Abbey wears a new shoe mold, a pair of purple translucent booties. the heel is an icicle and there are molded in icicles around the opening. there are white spots painted on over some of the bumps along the sole that I guess are supposed to be clumps of snow.
and again, Abbey wears another mismatched pair of earrings. her right earring is a pair of pink measuring spoons. her left earring is a blue spatula. they are really cute and well skulpted, but the non-matchy-ness is making my OCD twitchy. (Parental Warning: small parts!)
the above picture also gives you a pretty good look at Abbey's hair. she has purple streaked sideswept bangs, and a high ponytail. the ponytail has pink streaks on the top, and blue streaks on the bottom. it kind of reminds me of a peppermint.
Abbey and Heath come with several little cooking implements that are really cute. there is a tiny measuring cup with green plastic in it. one of the sides has little graduated markings on it. the other side has cracks. Monster High must have a really low budget for glassware.
there is also a pink mixing spoon with a bone handle and a whisk that looks like a skeletal hand. actually, it sounds really creepy now that I think about it, but they look pretty neat.
here we can see the fruits of their labors. first is a black mixing bowl with purple spiderweb detailing. it is filled with yellow batter with 3 white lumps on it. second is what I am guessing is the finished product. it is the half burnt/half frozen pie they are holding in the cartoon images. it has spiderweb detailing on top with a spider in the very middle.
I'm not really sure what this last item is supposed to be, other than maybe a flour cannister or something. the base is bright purple with Monster High skullettes molded in. the lid is bright green with spiderweb detailing and an eyeball on top. the bottom of the item is hollow and the lid is not removable.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: finally a Heath Burns doll! beautiful Abbey, neat accessories
The Bad: some small parts, difficult to find
The Verdict: Home Ick Abbey & Heath is a wonderful set, and has been really difficult to find in stores. your best bet is online. this is likely to be the only release we see of Heath for a while, so you are going to want this set. and with everything that's included, I doubt you'll be disappointed with it.
