Abbey's Ice Bed was something I went back and forth on buying for a while and then had trouble finding in stores. fortunately they seem to be showing up again in preparation for the holidays.
the back of the box shows a photograph of the bed set with a cartoon of Abbey and Shiver superimposed over it. the bottom right corner has an image of Frankie's vanity set, which is part of this wave of Monster High furniture.
the side of the box has a cute three panel cartoon. apparently Abbey is a snorer and Shiver has a hard time sleeping. I think it would have been cute for them to include the pink earmuffs in the set, but they didn't. oh well.
removed from the outer box you can see the nice way the accessories are all displayed to look like the room is in use.
the blanket is very soft. it has the same icicle and crystal pattern as original Abbey's dress.
the bed itself is a large piece. the sides look like glacial walls. there is a curved igloo headboard with iced over trees on either side. the trees on my set keep falling off, which is annoying.
the headboard has icicles around the edge and a Monster High skullette in the center. the skullette has fuzzy earmuffs on. in the bottom left of the picture you can see a peg sticking up. there are a few of these around the edge of the bed that the accessories can snap onto.
one of my favorite accessories in this set is Abbey's diary. it is a Monster High "decomposition" notebook with her name written on it. it does open, and inside is a molded Monster High skullette. not worth the trouble I had prying it open.
there is a pink translucent item that I think is a lamp. it has a giant snowflake on the very top and snowflakes molded into the sides. the bottom of the lampshade has icicles hanging from it. with a little bit of paint, this could be an interesting item.
while she hangs out writing in her diary, Abbey has a purple translucent mug of... ice cream? there is a swirl of what looks like whipped cream on the top with a straw sticking out of it. these parts are painted white and have glitter glued on.
another one of my favorite accessories in this set is Abbey's alarm clock. it is molded in translucent green plastic. it is an old fashion style alarm clock, with little feet, a handle, and 2 bells. the bells are rectangular and look like little ice cubes.
there are icicles hanging down on the front and back. the hands are held on with a snowflake. the back of the alarm clock has two little nubs for buttons to reset the clock.
Abbey has a little flat screen tv for her room. what does she stay up late watching? snowboarding of course! the tv is white pearlescent plastic and looks like it was formed out of snow. the screen is a piece of cardboard that can be removed via a slot in the top of the tv, so you can print pictures out and make Abbey watch whatever you want.
to rest her head, Abbey has a nice plump pillow. it is made out of a periwinkle fabric that has white polka dots and spiderweb snowflakes printed on it.
finally, there is a cute little dog bed included for Abbey's pet woolly mammoth Shiver. the base is purple and is molded to look quilted. the top is white and looks fuzzy.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: cute accessories, well themed for Abbey
The Bad: trees will not stay on, smallish parts
The Verdict: if you enjoy playing with or displaying you dolls out of box, Abbey's Ice Bed would be a fun addition to your collection. if you are at all interested in this set, I advise you buy it soon, as I don't expect it will be available after the holidays.
