I had thought that Twyla would be the easiest of the 13 Wishes dolls to find, but I was quite wrong. the difficulty I had somewhat cooled my enthusiasm for her, but she really is a sweet little doll.
she comes in the 13 Wishes packaging. the back of her box has her cartoon as well as her bio. sadly this is a case of the art not matching the doll very well.
removed from the outer box you can see that she is what I would call a "basic" doll. she comes with a pet, diary, and stand and brush. the liner she is attached to has the very colorful 13 Wishes background. one thing to note is that she is Howleen sized.
before I talk about her fashion, I'd just like to note that Twyla's hair is dreadful. I'm going to have to do some work on it for sure. I don't know how to identify the different types of hair, but hers is super frizzy. and even though it's that sickly green color, as far as I can tell, it does not glow in the dark. I had to ponytail it to keep it from frizzing out.
Twyla's fashion consists of two pieces- a shirt and a skirt. the shirt has a purple background with a black spider print that reminds me of wallpaper. it has elbow length sleeves and a black collar with a bow at the neckline. the skirt is tiered layers of black fabric with mint colored patterning and purple tulle.
she accessorizes with a mint belt with skull "buckle" and spider studs, and some bracelets. on her left arm she has 3 bangles- two purple and one black. on her right arm she wears a charm bracelet? it has a large skull shaped dangly part with smaller bits dangling off of it.
her earrings are shaped to look like an old-fashioned doorknob with the keyhole beneath. they are cast in a silver-grey plastic, which I am glad of, because they would not have looked good in the mint color. (Parental Warning: all her jewelry is small parts)
Twyla's shoes are a deep purple color with black soles. the laces are inexpertly painted on in mint, and have spider's dangling from the ends. the heel is twisted, and reminds me of really old wooden bannisters. it is sort of swirly looking, probably to keep with the hiding-in-the-mist aspect of her personality. you can also see that her legs have grey paint swirl detailing, presumably for the same reason.
her purse is the same deep purple as her shoes and has a black handle. it is imprinted with the same pattern as her shirt, but it is not painted. the only paint besides the handle is a spiderweb skull that is probably supposed to be a dream catcher, that is painted rather inexpertly in mint. the purse opens via a hinge on the bottom.
Dustin, Twyla's pet dust bunny, wins the award for creepiest pet. I do love that he is a "dust" bunny, but the whole surprised face with 1 eye reminds me of horror films. I guess this is by design so that Twyla has plenty of nightmares to eat. he will be going in the reject pet bin.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: new character with some cute details
The Bad: smaller (Howleen size) body, some small parts, HAIR!
The Verdict: thus far Twyla has been difficult to find, so if you are at all interested in her, I advise you to grab her as soon as you see her. while I do like her, I would have loved her if she looked more like her box art. I feel that she is a good idea that was executed poorly. I hope they make another version of her in the future.
