Chemistry lab: mini photo story

Ghoulia (in zombie): *um, ghouls? what are you doing>*

Lagoona (thinking): I really wish Gil's parents would like me...

Cleo: adding this elixir to the mealworm reduction.

Ghoulia (in zombie): *you need to measure that first!*

I used the counter top from my I Can Be... TV Chef Barbie as their chemistry workstation. Lagoona 2 is my stand-in for Mad Science Lagoona and has stolen her lab coat and Freshwater Lagoona's swim mask to use as safety goggles. the purple jar and all the flasks and the other dolls are from the Lab Partners Cleo and Ghoulia set. the jar of "mealworms" is the specimen jar from Mad Science Lagoona. the "mealworms" themselves are a weird bit of yarn I found in my scraps box. the pot on the burner is also from the TV Chef set, with the Lab Partners chemical plume stuck inside it. Cleo is holding a pink bottle from the TV Chef set, and Ghoulia has the measuring cup from it.

Lab Partners: Mad Science Cleo and Ghoulia, review

as part of what I consider to be a continuation of the "classrooms" line from 2011, Mattel has released a couple of new two packs, including the Mad Science Cleo & Ghoulia lab partners set.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: tons of neat accessories! super cute fashions!

The Bad: jewelry is all small parts, the tubing is thin and possibly breakable

The Verdict: I don't know what to say about the Mad Science Cleo & Ghoulia set, other than you need to get it. there is so much awesome here. all the little details that make me love monster high are here. you won't be disappointed.

amazed by my walmart

the past few weeks I have been making regular stops at walmart. naturally I always check the doll aisle. the previous two times I went there was a cardboard display with Monster High dolls in it, but today it was gone and the dolls had been moved to an endcap.

they have actually been well stocked, which is a shock on it's own, with new stuff. on my first stop I went a little overboard with the buying: 13 wishes Howleen, 13 wishes freshwater Lagoona, and the only danceclass Howleen I have seen in months. I also got the Draculaura/Operetta die-ner exclusive, which I returned on my second trip. I was afraid that it was going to be scarce, but I saw more at each visit, so no regrets on returning it. hopefully it'll go on sale at some point, and I'll probably buy it again if it does, but I need to be selective right now.

the Ghouls' Night Out exclusive 4 pack has been there every time as well. it seems to have totally replaced the Dot Dead Gorgeous exclusive 3 pack. they used to have cases of those, but they've just been gone since the GNO pack showed up. and they haven't been in the clearance section, so I have no idea what happened to them.

there have also been increasing numbers of Cleo/Ghoulia lab partner packs. I bought one the first day, but I will be returning it because the one I bought today has a better paint job on Ghoulia and better sewing on Cleo. I could do with a bit more consistency in the quality on these dolls.

I've been hoping to find a Heath/Abbey home ick pack to swap out with the one I ordered on Amazon. both of the dolls in my current set have wonky eyes. I could live with Heath, because it's not that noticable on him, but Abbey is squinting in one eye, and it makes her whole face look lopsided. I was so excited for this set to come out, so it's been a huge disappointment waiting to find them lockally.

today I was in for yet another huge suprise CATTY NOIR! there was 1 case worth on the shelf. I looked through them, but I didn't buy. while I'm thrilled they finally made a black cat (I'd rather they skipped all the others and made a black one first) but her makeup is to gawdy and I don't like all the pink.

I also saw the new 13 wishes Haunt the Casbah dolls (seen at TRU weeks ago), Spectra dj playset, and Cleo beach playset. I like the dolls in the playsets but I don't want all the other stuff, or the extra cost. actually that's mostly true with the die-ner set as well. additionally the Lagoona's shower and Spectra's bed have appeared. they appear to have completely replaced Frankie's vanity, and Abbey's bed (which I haven't seen in months).

so take heart Monster High hunters. if they're showing up in my tiny town, they should be hitting yours soon.

13 Wishes Freshwater Lagoona Blue: review

as part of the 13 Wishes doll line, Freshwater Lagoona Blue really stands out. originally I didn't much care for her, but as soon as I saw her in the store I was in love.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: awesome, unique new Lagoona Blue doll

The Bad: some small parts

The Verdict: even if you are a collector who only wants one of each character, I think that Freshwater Lagoona Blue is different enough from all other Lagoonas to warrant an exception. I highly recommend picking her up!

deboxing 13 wishes Lagoona

when it came time for me to detach Lagoona from the box liner, I was surprised to see that the t-tags they shot into her head had larger tabs than the others. I'm not sure what size the portion inside her head is, but these made it easier to hold and cut them to free her from the packaging.

unfortunately once they were cut and I could move the little extra bit of cardboard out of the way, I saw that she had the dreaded Leaky Head Syndrome.

Cushion vs Cushion

13 Wishes Cushion on the left and original Cushion on the right.

appears to be the same mold. 13 Wishes Cushion even has the slight seperation on her back where the original has the orange stripe. it is also notable that both versions have different colored eyes. 13 Wishes has blue eyes and the original has brown eyes. I guess as part of her make-over Cushion had to get contacts in addition to spike dye.

13 Wishes Howleen Wolf, review

13 Wishes Howleen is a doll I go back and forth on. it wasn't until writing this review that I figured out what my issues with her were. I'll explain them as I go on.

The Bottom Line:

The Good: new Howleen with her pet Cushion, some good mix/match clothing items

The Bad: small parts, hair

The Verdict: if you don't already have a Howleen, 13 Wishes Howleen is a good option, especially if you want her pet hedgehog Cushion.
