I was thrilled to be able to buy the 2012 SDCC exclusive Scarah and HooDude giftset at Matty Collector's after sale. like 2011's Ghoulia, this set comes double boxed.
the front of the outer box shows Frankie and Draculaura in the foreground with Hoodude and Scarah in the background. the back of the box shows Clawdeen strutting her stuff, with Ghoulia and Cleo following her. these graphics are all in black and white.
the packaging for this giftset is pretty neat. from the front there is a thin coffin cutout through which you can see Scarah. the flap has a heart shaped cutout through which you can see Hoodude's heart.
when you open the flap you can see Hoodude standing next to Scarah.
the inside flap has a cute little blurb about "background characters" and how Scarah and Hoodude met.
the back of the box has the same image of Scarah and Hoodude in the hallway with a little note from Scarah talking about how she found out she had been selected by fans to get a doll. a neat detail is that she signs her name with a 4-leaf clover and says "thank you" in Irish.
when I first opened the black outer box, a diary for each of the dolls fell out. I'm not sure if the diaries were an afterthought, but I'm really glad they were included. they really help flesh out the characters more.
still attached to the liner we see that Scarah and Hoodude both have stands, but nothing else. not even a hairbrush (not that either of them would benefit from a brushing).
first I'll talk about Hoodude, since there isn't much to say about him. he is a stuffed animal for all intents and purposes. I really like the embroidery on his face, and the way his hair was done, but the rest of him is kind of disappointing.
there is no internal armature, so Hoodude cannot stand on his own. he doesn't even have those button joints the way a lot of stuffed bears do. his jacket is printed on the same fabric as his body without any added trim, so it just looks really cheap without any dimensional interest.
Scarah wears her signature fashion from the webisodes, minus the original jacket. she has a lime green haltertop with matching headband and a fake leather olive green miniskirt.
she accessorizes with a tan belt. also notice she uses Frankie's alternate hand mold.
her fashion is completed with a pair of dark green high heels that are too big. I believe they use the same mold as the CAM bee girl. they would probably fit nicely over a pair of tights.
checking Scarah out from the back you can see what a disappointment her hair is. while it is styled to look nice in the box, from the back it just looks bad. and also there is a huge baldspot in the middle of her head which is just accentuated by the way they styled her hair.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: dolls of background characters :-)
The Bad: SDCC exclusive dolls of background characters :-(
The Verdict: in my opinion, this doll set is not really worth the prices it has been going for on ebay. there really isn't much to this set. there is another Scarah doll coming out soon as a Toys'R'Us exclusive that will be much cheaper and easier to find, and you can easily make a Hoodude this good with some white felt and markers.
