continuing in the Create-a-Monster line is the first set of boys, Gargoyle and Vampire Boy. I'm sure you've already noticed how under represented the male gender is at Monster High, at least as far as the dolls are concerned, so it's nice to have a couple more guys to round out the student body.
the back of the box shows the other sets in this wave, as well as some of the OCD inducing mix-match monsters that can be made with all the pieces.
first up we have the gargoyle boy. he is molded in a mottled grey plastic like Rochelle. he also has wing-like ears like her, and I think Clawd's hands. he also has a pair of detachable gargoyle wings. it is speculated that he is #7 from Frankie 2's diary.
the second boy is a vampire (notice the pink and the fangs). he has pointed ears and a flaming bat "tattoo" on his forearm. I gave him the wig because I think he looks better with it (and the gargoyle looks better bald). it is black with red streaks and has the same issues as the ghouls' wigs. it is speculated that he is a backgrounder from Belfry Prep.
the gargoyle is wearing the fashion that I think goes better with the vampire, but I really like the way it pops against his grey skin. he wears a black tanktop with red drippy stripes and red cargo shorts. fun thing that made me squee: the cargo pockets actually open!
since the gargoyle got the red outfit, that left the vampire with the MH casketball? uniform. it consists of black shorts with pink and white trim at the leg holes, and a jersey shirt. it has black sleeves, pink trim at the neck, and an MH decal on the front. the second picture gives you a good look at his "tattoo" mentioned earlier.
a feature that the guys have that the ladies do not is jointed ankles.
like the ghouls, the guys only have 1 pair of shoes to share (which is why I bought Deuce's scream uniform fashion a while back, so everyone could wear shoes). they are black hightop sneakers with red tongues. the shoelaces and trim are grey. the soles are painted white, and have lightning bolts molded in. actually, now that I am looking I notice there are lightning bolts molded into the sides too.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: more monster boys!
The Bad: poor quality wig, only one pair of shoes
The Verdict: if you want some more guys for your Monster High collection, the Gargoyle and Vampire Boy starter set is a good way to get them.
