after part 1 it took a long time before I could even look at Operetta. when I finally did pick her up again, I decided to study her hair more closely to see what exactly the problem was. I found a few issues...
- her hair is rooted in an odd pattern to accommodate her intended hair style
- it is rooted sparsely
- it was cut extremely uneven
any one of those issues alone would create difficulty in restyling her hair, but all three at once? we've hit the bad hair trifecta. I did give it another go though. I think this is probably the best I will be able to do without doing a reroot.
this time I decided to use bobbypins for curlers. I was able to get a package of 90 for less than $2 at walmart, which was way more than I needed. that would probably be enough to do 3-4 dolls at the same time. I also used the cold water and mustache comb like last time.
so there's a picture of the back of her head. it was difficult to find sections of hair that were close to the same length to curl together. I slid the bobbypin down near the end and kept the hair in the wavy part which was able to grip the hair better. then I rolled the hair as tightly as I could, and stuck another bobbypin in to hold the curl.
the front of Operetta's hair was more difficult and took me a couple of tries. after all the abuse her bangs were starting to look messy, so I ended up pinning them too. notice I put the pins in opposite directions. they seemed to give a better hold that way.
her fail- I mean victory- rolls ended up using 4 pins each. I also alternated the directions on those pins to give a better hold. it is especially important to keep the hair in the wavy part of the pin here, otherwise they will not hold the correct style.
here she is just after I pulled all the pins out. I gave her hair a couple of days to sit and dry with the pins in first.
as she has been sitting out for a while, the back curls are slowly relaxing. the rolls are staying quite well due to the ridiculous amount of gel that was in her hair.
still not the beautiful lushious curls her cartoon has, but I think it's an improvement. I think this is definitely the right track to take with her hair. if any of you have a suggestion for a good hair gel that can be used without worries of staining, please share below!
