another doll I missed out on the first time around is the second line basic Lagoona Blue doll. it seems like she was drastically underproduced the first time around. I never saw her in stores here, and it sounded like not very many other people found her either. she is in abundance now, almost to the point of becoming a shelf-warmer.
she comes in the coffin-style packaging. the back of the box features an excerpt from Lagoona's student file. along the bottom are cartoons of the other dolls in this wave and an advertisement for the Ghouls Rule DVD.
after removing her from the outer box, we see Lagoona comes with the standard diary, stand, and brush. instead of a pet, the second wave basics of the core dolls come with school supplies- Lagoona has a big bag and a folder.
Lagoona's fashion is definitely unique. she wears a one armed and one legged black mesh bodysuit under her strapless turquoise romper. the romper has a column of black "buttons" on the right side and pink trim along the top. at hip level there are two tiny belt loops and a gold rope belt. just below that there are ruffly layers of fabric with metallic printed fish scales. on the unsleeved arm Lagoona wears a black mesh band that could almost pass for a second sleeve.
one of Lagoona's accessories is a wide gold colored bracelet (small part!). it has a thick pink line through the middle with small raised turquoise nubs. honestly I don't like the whole pink/turquoise thing that seems to be Lagoona's signature color combo.
Update: her bracelet is actually a watch! there is a tiny watch face under a plastic bubble. that is too cool!
to match her bracelet, Lagoona has pink and turquoise fish bone earrings (small parts!). interesting mold, but I think I would have liked it more without the pink. to round out her accessories, Lagoona wears a golden multi-strand necklace and a gold rope headband.
also of note in the above picture is Lagoona's hand. her right hand has been molded into the shaka or "hang loose" sign. I like that they still included the webbing between her fingers. this hand is also now available with the Roller Maze Lagoona.
I am a little distressed to see that Lagoona is taking Howleen's one sock advice. (actually Lagoona was produced first, but the mismatched socks is Howleen's thing, so I'm blaming her.) on the side that does not have a pant leg, Lagoona wears a black mesh sock. please don't be too distracted by that horrible fashion choice to notice her shoes. they remind me of the jelly shoes I used to wear as a kid. I loved them even though they made my feet hurt, so I can only imagine how a high heeled version would feel.
Lagoona has brought a transparent blue folder to school. it looks quite realistic and even has working pockets! inside the folder she had what turned out to be a page of stickers (only the seahorses and seamonster skullette are stickers). I think that's a really cute touch to give Lagoona some tiny stickers to decorate her folder with. I totally did that in highschool.
to carry her folder, Lagoona has a pink translucent bag that matches her jellies. this is a pretty good sized bag, and it opens, so Lagoona would probably have room for several folders in there.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: lovely Lagoona doll, unique accessories
The Bad: small parts, unpleasant pink/turquoise color scheme (in my opinion)
The Verdict: if you like her look and accessories, this Lagoona Blue will be sure to thrill. but if you're just after the shaka hand, I would advise getting Roller Maze Lagoona instead. she's cheaper and has a different look from all the other Lagoona's out there.
