At long last Mattel has brought us a doll of Gil Webber! He is the only male doll in the new Skull Shores line, which features the students of Monster High in beachwear, again. We also find out that Gil's first name is actually Gillington. I'd go by Gil too.
The back of the box shows Gil holding a treasure map while pondering how he is going to drink his fruit juice through his helmet. Like a typical teenage boy, he is thinking about food. Under his picture are drawings of 4 other dolls in the Skull Shores line- all girls.
Gil is decked out in beachwear. He has on a black tank with a fish bone image on the front. He wears turquoise swim trunks that have a wave image printed on the left leg. The finishing touch is his turquoise shark's tooth necklace (Parental Warning: small part!).
For footwear Gil has blue flip-flops with black soles. He doesn't have a separation between his toes, so there is no central peg. They are held on with clear elastics for shipping, and I recommend keeping them for play or display. The part that goes over the top of the foot is made of a soft plastic that may not hold up to rough play.
Also in the above picture you can see one of Gil's water monster features- leg fins. These are removable like Lagoona's are for easier dressing/undressing. He also has gills on his neck (get it?) and a head fin. In the second picture below you can see his webbed fingers and arm fins. Also notice the exciting new addition to male dolls- the movable wrist. This allows him to hold his tropical drink and actually sip through the straw!
The drink is pretty much Gil's only non-wearable accessory. It resembles a pineapple and has fish bones for garnish. He also comes with a card that has the same picture of Gil from the back of the box on one side, and a map of a skull shaped island on the other side.
And of course Gil comes with his water helmet. There is a seam running from shoulder to shoulder along which it snaps open. It actually fits pretty well. Looks like I didn't have it snapped all the way together from the side view though. Oops.
The Bottom Line
The Good: it's a new character, and a guy! cool monstery features.
The Bad: some small parts, currently hard to find, a little pricey for a swimwear doll
The Verdict: currently this is the only Gil Webber doll available. I know most people are only collecting the "basic" version of each doll, but since Jackson still doesn't have a basic, it might be quite a wait before one for Gil comes out. If you get him, you won't be disappointed.
