After a looooong wait, my Monster High Abbey Bominable Doll is finally here! I am in love.
Abbey comes in the newer coffin-style packaging. Loose in the box was a little bookmark advertizing the books by Lisi Harrison. You can sort of see it laying across one of her feet. On the back of the box you find her cartoon and bio.
And because I love her so much, and so you can see her a little better, here is a photo of her removed from the box but still attached to the liner.
There you can see the stand on the right and her diary. Although she is a basic doll with a pet, she is part of wave 2. This is evident in her diary, in which she writes about the first days of school, but not about the end of summer vacation.
While it isn't what I would wear in the Arctic, Abbey's outfit is pretty cute. She wears a mini-dress that has a "fur" collar. The pattern reminds me of diamonds or glass, but I expect it is actually ice crystals. She also has "fur" arm- and leg- warmers. Under her legwarmers she wears white boots and iridescent tights.
Abbey's accessories consist of a white "fur" head band and some jewelry. She has a blue necklace that looks like it's made of crystals. In her right ear she has a matching blue icicle and in her left ear a pink snowflake. As a slightly OCD person, the mismatched earrings kind of bother me, but they do match the gradient of her hair.
She also has a dark blue purse, with a tiny skeleton key attached to it. Note that the long white purse strings are sewn into her outfit and do not continue onto the back. Also Parental Warning: the purse, key, and jewelry are all small parts.
In the purse picture above you can see her claws fairly well. I think that they, along with her tusks, are a cute addition and make her seem more monster-y. Another nice detail is that her skin is covered in glitter, which gives her a "caught in the snow" feeling. This glitter seems to be well glued on. As of writing this review, I have not had any trouble with shedding.
Abbey's pet is a baby wooly mammoth named Shiver. I think this is a cute and creative idea. Shiver is actually purple, not blue. Her sculpt is pretty cute and she is made out of sturdy plastic. The one I have has a rather surly look in her eyes that reminds me of my dog.
The Bottom Line:
The Good: cute and creative. nice details.
The Bad: some small parts.
The Verdict: Currently the Monster High Abbey Bominable Doll is still very hard to find, so if you are interested in her and stumble across one in the stores, I urge you to buy her without delay. Unless Mattel churns out a lot of stock between now and then, I expect she will remain scarce until after Christmas. I think she is a must-have for any Monster High enthusiast.
