For my second Monster High doll, I wanted to make sure I got my favorite character from the webisodes, Lagoona Blue (The webisodes can be viewed on the Monster High youtube channel.) How can you not fall in love with an Aussie-sounding monster from Down Under (the sea!) ?
This is the first version of Lagoona that was released. Her box is similar to that of Clawdeen, with the trapper-keeper styling, and bio printed on back. She is the daughter of the sea monster (no specific one given) and loves anything that has to do with the ocean.
Inside the box is your Lagoona Blue doll, a hair brush and stand, her diary, and her pet piranha Neptuna. I thought her diary was really cute. If there are any Australian readers out there, I'd be interested to know if they got the lingo right.
Neptuna is not a very menacing looking piranha. The only thing that points towards her carnivorous nature is a couple of small painted-on teeth. Parental warning: Neptuna is made of the same softer plastic as Crescent, so her fins are flexible. This is probably to make it easier to fit her into Lagoona's fish-bowl purse that she uses to take Neptuna to school.
Lagoona's outfit consists of a sea-foam green hoodie with black sleeves. The hoodie has a slit in the back for her hair. Under that she has a magenta scaly swimsuit with attached blue netting knee-length leggings. Over that she has a tiny pair of black shorts that remind me of beach cover-ups. Her shoes are platform "floppies" that are black and white with magenta soles.
Her only other accessories are a few pieces of gold colored plastic jewelry, and a pink flower hair ornament. Parental warning: these are small parts. My favorite detail is the seahorse charm on her necklace.
Something else that sets Lagoona apart from the other Monster High dolls, is her "fishy" body parts. In the picture above you can see her webbed fingers and tiny arm fins. These fins will somewhat limit her choice of tops or force her to go with the rolled sleeve look. She also has fins on the back of her calves. Parental warning: these are small parts and removable. Since they are removable, she should be able to wear the same pants as the other dolls. I recommend saving the clear rubber-bands that keep her fins secure in the box. Mine are doing a great job keeping the fins attached outside of the box!
The Bottom Line
The Good: adorable, and unique even among the Monster High dolls.
The Bad: some small parts.
The Verdict: Now that I have her, I think that the Lagoona Blue Doll might be my favorite. All of the little details add up to make her a really great doll. If you get her you will NOT be disappointed.
